The Moose is the state animal of Maine.

The moose (Alces alces) is the largest member of the deer family.

State SymbolEdit

Its status as the state animal was adopted by the Legislature of 1979.[1] It appears on the State flag.

It also appeared on Maine postage stamps: on a state flag stamp in 1976, as part of the Greetings from America series of 2002 and the revalued set of later that year, and beside a state flag in 2009.
